About The Role:
The Wholesale Underwriting Executive plays a pivotal role in assessing, pricing, and managing commercial insurance risks sourced through wholesale channels. This position requires a deep understanding of underwriting principles, market dynamics, and broker relationships to drive profitable growth across a diverse portfolio of complex risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment & Underwriting
– Evaluate new and renewal submissions from wholesale brokers across various commercial lines (e.g., property, casualty, liability).
– Determine coverage terms, pricing, and conditions in line with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
– Analyze financials, loss history, and exposure data to make informed underwriting decisions. - Broker Relationship Management
– Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to ensure high-quality submissions and mutual business growth.
– Conduct regular broker meetings, presentations, and training sessions to promote underwriting capabilities and appetite. - Portfolio Management
– Monitor performance of assigned portfolio, ensuring profitability and compliance with internal targets.
– Identify trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for product development or refinement. - Compliance & Documentation
– Ensure all underwriting decisions and documentation meet regulatory, legal, and internal standards.
– Maintain accurate records of quotes, binders, endorsements, and correspondence. - Collaboration & Strategy
– Work closely with actuarial, claims, and product teams to refine underwriting strategies.
– Contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines, pricing models, and risk selection criteria.
About You
You are a proactive and detail-oriented individual, who will enjoy the responsibility of preparing new business and renewal quotations, as well as handling mid-term adjustments for property and professional indemnity policies. As our business continues to expand, there may be the opportunity to work across a broader range of commercial insurance products.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial underwriting, ideally within a wholesale or specialty insurance environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex risk data and financial statements.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- CIP or equivalent insurance qualification and/or relevant experience preferred.
